I am a native of Ponca City, Oklahoma. I attended the University of Kansas, graduating cum laude in 2006 with a degree in English Literature. After graduating, I promptly moved to New York City to apply my love of reading to a job in the publicity department at St. Martin’s Press in the famous Flatiron Building. While there, I often found myself visiting the legal department to get the dish on author contracts and libel issues. I continued my career in public relations (this time at a fashion company—another passion of mine) with law school in the back of my mind.
In 2009, I began law school at Fordham University in New York. During my time at Fordham, I interned with firms involved in entertainment, trademark, and immigration law. My favorite internship was with Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, an organization that helps low-income artists resolve legal issues related to their craft. Projects I worked on included non-profit formation and partnership agreements to employment disputes and workers comp (and of course, lots of copyright and trademark). During school I also contributed reporting on fashion law issues in national online publications. Outside of school, I somehow had time to meet my husband, Adam, and maintain an active book club.
Before graduating with my J.D. in 2012, Adam and I visited Asheville on vacation. Like so many others, we quickly fell in love with the sophisticated downtown and beautiful surroundings, and began to think about leaving New York for more mountainous environs. While I was studying for the New York Bar Exam, Adam received a job offer here. Despite the fact that I had passed the New York Bar, we decided we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to move to Asheville.
I joined the firm in 2013, and have been practicing civil litigation with concentration in the areas of real estate, corporate practice, trademark & copyright.
I am a graduate of Leadership Asheville, Class 34, and have served as President and Secretary of the WNC Chapter of the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys. In 2019, I was sworn in as member of the Buncombe County Board of Elections. I also donate pro bono time to the Mountain Area Volunteer Lawyers Program through Pisgah Legal Services.
